The Total Racing Products EMPower is a smart, compact controller designed to give you full control over the speed of EMP WP29 and WP32 intercooler water pumps using PWM signals, removing the difficulty of trying to figure out how to control the pump using CAN bus. Developed in direct communication with EMP, EMPower supports both low-side and high-side PWM inputs and automatically interprets those signals to drive the pump accurately. If no valid PWM signal is detected within three seconds, it defaults to full-speed operation as a fail safe and to maintain cooling performance. Housed in a carbon fiber-infused enclosure and sealed with epoxy and silicone, it’s built for durability and wired with a motorsport-grade Deutsch DT6 connector for seamless integration into high-performance setups.
EMPower takes the guesswork out of CAN bus communication by automatically detecting the connected pump and supporting both 250k and 500k CAN speeds, as well as J1939 and EMP’s proprietary messaging protocols—no reprogramming, user setup, or firmware changes are required to take full control of your EMP pump. EMPower's chipset features an integrated 120 ohm CAN termination resistor, and for proper operation, a second 120 ohm resistor must be installed right before the pump between CAN Hi and CAN Lo. If you’re wiring EMPower yourself, this will need to be added on your own, but if you choose to purchase the optional TRP EMPower Universal Harness, the resistor is already built in. Once connected, EMPower enables full control up to the pump’s speed from 0 RPM to the maximum speed of 4,600 RPM.
EMPower is engineered for compatibility and flexibility, accepting active-high PWM signals with duty cycles ranging from 5% to 100% and frequencies from 10Hz to 10kHz. While the ideal operating range is 100–1000Hz, the wide frequency window ensures compatibility with a variety of aftermarket ECUs and controllers. Internally, EMPower updates the pump control signal every 500 milliseconds—sending two messages per second—so while higher PWM frequencies are accepted, they won’t result in faster pump response. This ensures smooth and predictable operation without the need for fine-tuning signal frequency.
Designed for real-world automotive environments, EMPower accepts a wide input voltage range from 7 to 28VDC—exceeding the typical pump voltage to accommodate conditions like double-battery jump starts without issue. All input and signal pins are protected against reverse polarity, voltage spikes, load dump events, and electrostatic discharge (ESD). For added flexibility, the PWM input supports signal voltages from 5 to 24VDC and is compatible with both low-side (open-drain) and H-bridge (push-pull) drivers, making integration with a variety of ECUs and controllers seamless.

Frequently Asked Questions
What comes with each EMPower?
Included with every EMPower is a DT-6 style connector, a connector lock, and pins so that you can wire it specific to your application. If you purchase a EMPower Universal Harness with your Pierburg Pal, you will not need the do-it-yourself DT-6 connector kit mentioned.
What if I don't know how to wire a connector?
TRP sells a universal harness that you can plug into your EMPower. You can purchase this harness here: COMING SOON - Lead time is approximately 2-3 weeks.
